Interests
With a background in still photography I love to make pictures, whether it is outdoors or in a studio setting. One of my favorite black and white artists is Ansel Adams. I use his zone system today in my cinematography. The zone system helps me judge the values of what I am photographing whether it is in Video, Film or Stills.
I am a very big fan of the Impressionist painters, Renoir one of my favorites. Every chance I get to go to a gallery and look at art work I go. There is a lot to be learned from the great artists, their master recreation of light and composition. Recently I found a painting by Maxwell Parrish and was completely amazed by his ability to reproduce color and his ability to use Photoshop like effects way before computers were ever created.
For fun I enjoy being in the outdoors. I go on caving, rock and mountain climbing trips as much as my schedule will permit. Rock climbing and caving are the two things that can take my mind off of the stresses of everyday life. There is a supreme sense of accomplishment when you have pushed yourself to the physical and mental limits to get up to the top of a cliff or to the depths of a new cave. These activities help me to clear my head and keep me focused and ready for the next job or assignment.
On a recent shoot for a new television show, I recertified myself so I was able to scuba dive with one of the hosts. Scuba Diving in another passion and I am always pleased when I get an opportunity to utilize this skill in my work.
